Who we are and what we do
Welcome to the Little Bithywind Allotment site. The Bradninch Allotment Tenants’ Group (BATG) is an informal group of plot holders who are working with the Bradninch Town Council Allotment Committee to improve, develop and sustain our allotment site. BATG raise issues and make recommendations to the Town Council Allotment Committee but do not have responsibility for the management of the site. We have set up BATG to communicate ideas, promote discussion and offer informal advice to fellow plot holders. The Town Council Allotment Committee formally manages the allotment site and in instances of site management should be directly contacted.
A warm welcome awaits anyone who cares to visit the Bradninch allotments at the Bithywind site opposite the junction of Hele Road and Westfield.
The Town Council rents the Bithywind area from the Duchy of Cornwall and it currently has 36 half plots and 13 whole plots. There is a communal container on site for storage of items that can be shared but most plot holders prefer their own shed where they can collect water rather than use the 2 taps provided.
We like to think the allotments holders are a friendly bunch and they grow a weird and wonderful range of flowers, fruit and vegetables.
The allotments offer the opportunity to grow those things for which you may not have the space or the correct situation in your own garden, in addition to offering an amazing view of Bradninch and its environs.
We offer whole and half plots at the current cost of £20 and £10 respectively and this price will rise to £25 and £12.50 for the 2011/12 season. Perhaps families might consider sharing a plot to grow fresh fruit and vegetables available on demand and get fresh air and exercise as well.
