Bradninch has at its heart a wealth of quality Music and its promotion within the Town. All clubs continue to be amazed and delighted by the new young musical talent which visits our town to share with others their love of musical performance.

Bradninch is a small town in Devon which “punches above its weight in music & arts”.

Bradninch Music Group (BMG)

Bradninch Music Group was formed in 2000 with assistance of a £350 grant from Bradninch Arts Group the first Bradninch Music Festival was launched and the Bradninch Music Group formed. The Bradninch Music Group’s mission is to make music accessible to the community and promote creative performers.

The Group is a community organisation created by enthusiasts and professional performers who promote a weekend Music Festival in Bradninch each year since its inception, held over the second weekend of June.

Bradninch Folk Club

Bradninch Folk Club is a place to join in or just listen and welcomes folk music performers and more. The club has two formats: Guest Night and in the round Club Nights. The venue alternates between the function rooms of the two pubs in Bradninch - The Castle Hotel and The White Lion. The club meets every Tuesday fortnight and features a wide musical range of material. If anything is missing musically you are welcome to bring it along. Guest Nights run from September to June and have cabaret format of a main act, supporting floor spots and featured bands or acts.

Club Nights are free and Guest Nights incur a nominal door fee.Club Night’s are a great evening for informal music making and provide an opportunity for those developing their skills to mix with the experienced and professional performers.

Bradninch Acoustic Music Club (BAMC) The Bradninch Acoustic Music Club is held on the second Wednesday of each month at St Disens Hall in Bradninch. The acoustic club first started in April 2009 by Colin Wilson and Jerry Cahill to provide a platform for young and new up and coming artists to hone their performance skills in a concert style atmosphere and to try out new songs and instrumentals, as well as having a fun musical night out.The club welcomes all genres of music so long as it can be performed acoustically although we have made the odd exception for instruments with low sound projection. Both Colin and Jerry are guitar teachers and Colin also does guitar workshops, vocal and performance skills, so there is always plenty of help and support for those who have never got up in front of an audience before. The club will often have guest performers on alternative months from local, national and international artists in order to raise funds and provide ticket concessions to regular club goers, small bursaries and concert promotions. Do have a look on the site for those who have performed at the club so far to see the diversity of music and high standards we have all enjoyed. This coming year (2012) we shall be raising funds for a project called “Young Voices in Music” providing a show case on a large stage to young musicians in Devon, so watch this space if you are a musician or club runner. Doors open at 7:45pm it will cost you £1:50 to get in (including musicians) and £2:50 concession tickets for guests appearance. There is no alcohol license so please bring your own favourite tipple although we do serve tea and coffee + biscuits in the break, local musician CD’s are actively promoted as well as other club news. The quality of music events in Bradninch has attracted attendance from a wide area of Devon, Somerset and further a-field. The events are advertised in the town and everyone is welcome.

All the clubs, the Arts group, Bradninch Players and BMG come together for the Annual Music and Arts Festival and showcase a broad and brilliant array of musical and performing talents plus Workshops and Street events.

We should also note the continuing live music and its promotion by the two Pubs in the Town – the White Lion and The Castle Inn. They all add to the vibrant usical atmosphere that pervades the town.

Bradninch CDs

In 2003 the Music group produced a promotional CD Eclectica. It contained work of artists who had then recently played in Bradninch. Sadly since the CD was made Cyril Tawney has passed on, his work is legend in folk circles where his songs are often thought of as “traditional” and we are proud that our CD includes his Devonshire Blues – Sally Free and Easy.

In 2009 the groups released a double CD called Eclectica+ with several bonus tracks including many from a live improvisation event held in 2008, The Chaos Gig which featured artists; Kat Marsh, Dave Sawyer, Jerry Cahill and others with DJ’s and percussionists improvising and mashing music. The second Collecting Chaos is a musical portrait of original and roots performance in Bradninch.

2012 - Bradninch CDs To help fund and promote new music in Bradninch for the second decade of the 2000’s and for the BAMC Young Voices of Music project the BAMC have recorded and compiled two further CD’s. The first is a compilation of tracks from the many artists who performed at the 2011 Music Festival. We are extremely grateful to the artists for allowing us to use some of their music tracks to help support music in Bradninch. The Celebration CD costs £5.

The second is a very unique live recording of the Reg Meuross & band at the 2011 Bradninch festival. The live concert also featured the talents of Simon Edwards on bass & Roy Dodds on percussion (both brilliant with Fairground Attraction) & Martin Belmont who was a founding member of Graham Parker & the Rumour who were much-feted over their five years & six albums. Martin has been a very in-demand sideman across a wide spectrum of music, with sessions for Elvis Costello, Billy Bragg, Desmond Decker & Johnny Cash amongst many others.

BAMC are very grateful to Reg Meuross and his band to allow us to record the concert in 2011 and produce this live album.
